Hey all! This week I went to the nursing college to introduce myself to the faculty and staff, and to also set up an appointment to meet the dean. This new Dean, Dr. Mainus, is incredibly busy so I am not able to meet with her until the second week of November. I was able to meet with the assistant dean, Dr. Cherrington, and discuss some of my ideas. She loved the idea of a mentoring program for the pre-nursing students, and agreed that they need to be more involved in the college. She also suggested that she attend any mentoring events I plan, so she can talk to the students. We also discussed adding the nursing senator to various committees within the college, a more advanced tutoring program, adding a medical terminology class to the curriculum, and also the issue that students seem to be having with reaching out to the nursing faculty for academic help. Tonight I will be attending a Meet the Dean event the college is sponsoring, and hopefully will be able to briefly speak with Dr. Mainus.
