October 8, 2012 Student Government Senator Corban Robinson met with Dean Mainous to discuss the grading scale for nursing students. Students have asked that grades be rounded to the nearest percent grade for all projects, which Dr. Mainous was in agreement with. Next was in reference to the current grading scale which, as nursing students know, stands at a C=75%, B=84%, A=93% (with C being the minimum passing grade). Although the College of Nursing is determined to keep the minimum grade at a 75%, it was suggested that the grading scale be modified to C=75%, B=80%, A=90%. The concern with the old scale was not that students would or wouldn't pass, but by making it harder to get an A or B would negatively impact their GPAs and thus make grad school that much harder to achieve in the future. The Dean showed support of this new grading scale and would certainly propose it to the college board. |
