Disability Affairs Report - Week Four
It's hard to believe we've been back as long as we have! This quarter is just flying by!
Last week we had our first planning meeting for the Abilities Expo. During the meeting we discussed the formation of committees. Zach Holler has agreed to be the head of our Vendor Contact Committee. He plans to work with his organization, Abilities United, and RSO by calling and contacting vendors for the event. Andy Macy and Mary Noble of Rainbow Alliance and RCA are also going to help, though they had to talk to their E-Boards about what they could do.
We are looking for more people to volunteer to help with our Setup, Finance and Food Committees. I also met with Jason in Event Services to set up the Apollo Room. Maria Matzik and the Access Center are helping us put the event on. We're very excited about it and cannot wait to share it with all of you at Wright State.
I am still working on my Proposal for the Disability Resource Center. I hope to have it completed in the next week or so. That is when I can bring it to the university. I have received amazing feedback on it, as well.
I am excited for Bus to Butler. I have been encouraging students with disabilities to sign up. I am grateful at the effort Galen and Katrina have put in to make it accessible to students of all ability levels. Make sure you get your tickets before this week! It's coming up fast!
I have also been talking to the disability community, at large, this week. I really want to know what I can do for them and how I can help them. They have given me some great feedback. I am planning to write up a resolution to explore the possibility of making some of the things they said possible. I have spoken with Andy Macy of Rainbow Alliance, who has a common interest in the issue through his organization. We plan to work on two different resolutions to improve services for students.
All in al, it's been a productive week. Enjoy the weekend and RAIDER UP!
