Over the past week I have been very hands off when it comes to my senate. They are all doing a fantastic job with meeting with their respected administrators to get task that they have layed out with me completed. I met with Jennifer, the new UC Senator last week and gave her a few pointers in who it would be best to meet with to start communicating with her constituency. I have a meeting scheduled this week with Lindsey, the new Graduate Senator to discuss her role in Student Government and what plans she has! This week I also plan to touch base with Dr. Sweeney and Provost Angle to see how their conversations with Communications and Marketing went in the Union Revamp project and invite Provost Angle to one of our last meetings of the quarter.
- Chief of Staff - Steve Young
I am very proud to say we have three new members of Student Government. They are Lindsey Hofmeyer, Jenn Barbadora, and Spencer Brannon. I have trained all of them on the website, google accounts, and general office materials. I have answered any of their questions along with current members so everyone stays on the same page. These new additions to the team will create a better and stronger Student Government for Wright State.
I have also been working on updating committee list including having a meeting with Gary. My next goal is to release the new list to the entire SG. I also will be revamping sg committees so that they best help students within Wright State. I will be helping Galen heavily in the coming weeks with getting his new prospective associate in the loop as well as helping with Bus to Butler. All in all it has been an active week.
- Chief Justice - Zack Beck
- This week has been really great. I was working really hard on doing last minute things for the invisible children program however, that event has finally come to a close. WHAT A SUCCESS IT WAS!! WE easily filled the auditorium, and had many more people that we thought we would have. I would say all together we had over 300 people. The people who travel around the country putting on the program told me afterward that this was one of the most successful showings that they have been to, to date. We also raised over $200 at the event which puts us around $1,700. This puts us in the running to be able to send 7 people on an all-expenses paid trip to Uganda. All in all the event was a huge success and thank you to everyone who helped me over the last few weeks. I also would like to welcome Spencer Brannon to student government as the new associate chief justice!
- Internal Affairs - Becca Bolender
- Excellent job to everyone who made The Invisible Children event last night possible! It was a really touching experience, and I am so excited to see WSU joining together for this cause. Ryan Phipps did an awesome job planning the first SG football game! Today I will be sitting on SFC for one of our last meetings this quarter. Tonight I will be helping with multi-cultural Halloween, and attending Zeta Tau Alpha's Think Pink Buffalo Wild Wings night. Later this week I will be working with Chief of Staff, Steve Young, to compare our current academic calendar and events with the semester transition that will take place next fall.

Hello all,
This last week was a pretty productive week. We had our 4th HOR meeting this week and discussed many ideas about how to continue to improve organizations and how we can improve the annual winter organization fair that the HOR puts on. Eric Corbitt also attended and gave some insight into upcoming projects, including the fitness center expansion.
I really want to start investigating ways for Brandy and I to help individual student organizations. I think the HOR is heading in the right direction but there is much more we can do for the organizations. Brandy, Luke, and I will be meeting soon to do a review of the HOR and formulate goals for Winter Quarter!!
This past week I attended: Event Review Meeting, Dining Services Committee Meeting, the WOWLA meeting/bowling, and the SG Football Game which was a lot of fun...congratulations to the Senate and Gary D. for the victory.
Looking forward to invisible children, MCH, and other student activities going on this week
- Assistant Speaker of the House – Brandy Zapata
This past week was again productive and I can definitley feel the quarter is starting to wind down but the work is only seeming to pick up!
I helped out my adopted organization, Operation Smile, by creating a facebook event from their upcoming Halloween Masquerade Movie that is taking place Friday October 28th at 9:30pm, right after the Nightmare on Springwood Lane! I was also able to attend their General Meeting for the first time. We had another successful House of Representatives meeting with Eric Corbitt as our speaker. I attended the Student Legal Services commitee meeting and have started updating the Tunnel Map. At the House of Reps. meeting I spoke briefly about organizations being aware of two movie rental companies, one of which offers a special WSU discoun, criterionpicusa.com is their website. I am going to be creating an email to send out to orgs or info to be posted on the House of Reps. page for quick reference.
This week is going to be busy with a lot of events going on including Invisible Children, The Black Jew Dialogues, Multicultural Halloween, and ZTA Think Pink Week. I will be attending/participating in all of these and hope to see many of you there.
- Director of Academic Affairs- Nick Port
This past week was fun.
First off I had a blast at the football game. Good game to everyone who played and thanks to Ryan for organizing the event.
Last week Galen and I sat in on an interesting meeting about choosing survey software for campus. We saw four presentations from different candidates and we will be narrowing it down soon.
I have been reviewing classes for a few of the committees I am on, in order to get them approved before we switch to semesters. A lot of progress has been made, but there is still a lot left to do.
Lastly, over the weekend I attended the OSGA conference, which was awesome. Many of the schools were represented there, and we came together to voice our concerns as students about the future of higher education in Ohio. We talked about issues such as student safety on campus, student fees and budget cuts and issue 2. As a group we talked about the impact these topics have on students. Collectively we were able pass 6 resolutions over the weekend. The most important one was the stance that OSGA is in favor of the repeal of issue 2. We looked at this from solely a student standpoint. I think our SG should follow suit, take politics out of this and recognize how this issue will have a direct negative affect on the academics in the state of Ohio.
- Director of Campus Culture- Christian Richardson
- Director of Disability Affairs - Dominick Evans
I am finally having a planning meeting with some faculty members on the Abilities Expo this week. I am going to start more actively planning and having a meeting with the Greater Dayton Independent Living to see what they have available to use at the Expo. I also plan to meet with my vendor to get interest in bringing high tech equipment to WSU to show off what is being developed.
I attended part of Invisible Children and much of Black Jew Dialogues. Both were very well put together. Congrats to Zach Beck and the rest of the Big Six, for pulling off such an amazing event in Invisible children, so kudos to you all, I really enjoyed myself. Hopefully I was able to spread the word to the smaller organizations about fundraising for this worthy cause.
My current goal is to work on getting a room for the Disability Resource room. This could be a huge asset to students with and without disabilities, which is why I want to work on it before winter break, as it is fast approaching. Good luck to everyone in these last few weeks.
- Director of International Affairs - Mark Tshimanyika
This past week I attended the ICE e-board meeting, where we discussed upcoming events and collaboration. I initiated the SG birthday initiative where we celebrate each member's birthday by bringing a cake/cupcakes to the meeting. I finalized a meeting a time for the Buddy System program we will try to set in motion for Nov. 1 at 10 am. I attended the Multi-cultural halloween meeting and will be the judge during the children's costume contest. I attended the WOWLA discussion with Take Flight members followed by bowling with those members that evening. I have posted a poll on Wings which will be coming up soon asking International students about their feelings towards a permanent place available for worship.
- Director of Public Relations - Adam Verdecchia
So over the past few weeks I have been working on keeping the e-sign outside the union up to date. Additionally, I am putting the finishing touches on the bulletin board design as well as the newsletter. I plan on getting the bulletin board done this week (probably friday) and I will be finishing up the newsletter this weekend and will be sending it out the first of the month. Lastly I finished up the design for the SG t-shirt which will hopefully be made in the winter quarter and I am starting the initial design process for the vinyl window banners that will go on the doors of the Student Org Complex for each of the big 6.
- Director of Student Affairs - Galen Crawford
This past week I have accomplished the following:
1. I have interviewed and selected an associate for the senate's approval. Katrina has some valuable Student Government experience and the drive to accomplish the goals I have set. Hopefully she will be confirmed this week for me to begin deligating projects to.
2. Vicky Davidsion and I have been communicating about the student org complex revamp and the smoking policy resolution. We will be meeting next Monday at 1:30 in the student org complex to go over plans for the area and to discuss where to go next on the smoking initiative. Afterwards, an interior designer will be around the area to make pattern and layout suggestions.
3. Nick Port and I have been moving forward with researching the recent change that was made to the Academic Intergrity Hearin Panel that resulted in students' not being able to represent themselves infront of the panel unless they request an appeal. It is our hope to approach Dr. Krane and the Faculty Exec to urge them to form a committee that will revisit the issue.
- Director of Web Communications- Matt Burks
Senator Reports:
- Boonshoft School of Medicine Senator – Riyad Tayim
- College of Education and Human Services Senator – Jeremy Keller
This past week has been an eventful one. For starters, the College of Education and Human Services now has a Facebook page! If you haven't already, make sure to go like it to receive updates on what is going on in the CEHS. I am now working on getting a newsletter for CEHS as well.
The Invisible Children event is this Tuesday at 6! Myself, as well as a lot of other members in Student Government and other organizations, have been putting a lot of work into this and would love to have you come out and support this cause.
Finally, I was at this past Saturday's soccer game and played in the SG football game, both of which were a blast.
- College of Engineering and Computer Science Senator – Cory Snyder
This past week was exciting!
I'm still working with the Dean's office to advertise the idea that undergrad students can get involved in cool engineering projects. New ideas that complement the original idea were also generated from my discussions with the college chairs.
Last week I met with Riyad, our College of Medicine Senator, along with a few other student leaders, to discuss the Engineering in Medicine idea. The meeting was extremely productive and we are all really excited about getting this initiative off of the ground. More details will follow as we accomplish our goals.
Finally, I had a blast at the SG football game on Sunday and am really looking forward to the winter competition!
- College of Liberal Arts Senator – Luke Wortley
- College of Nursing and Health Senator – Brittany Piasecki
This past Thursday, I volunteered with the SMART organization at a homeless dinner in Fairborn. While there, I was able to speak with the SMART president about the possibility of SMART collaberating with me to form a mentoring program for the pre nursing students. She was very receptive of the idea. I plan to meet with the SMART faculty advisor sometime this week to follow up with her on the plans. I've also recieved requests for a CONH facebook page, so I will be working on that soon.
I have also been gathering information on reviving the nursing council. During finals week, I plan to set up a SG table in the nursing lounge to introduce myself, give refreshments before finals, and get contact numbers for people who would be interested in participating in the nursing council. A meeting with the assitant dean is set up to further discuss.
- College of Science and Math Senator – Kent Weaver
The past few week was spent meeting with joyce howes and the COSM Deans Circle.
Items discussed during Deans Cirlce meeting
Problem: Awareness of graduate and proffesional school application processes, such as timelines and requirements.
Possible Solution: A seminar series that walks through the ins and outs of the steps needed to pursue further education post undergrad. A committee was formed to advise the dean on issues pertaining to this seminar series.
General:
A committee was formed to provide feedback to the new H.E.R.O. website being launched within the college.
A meeting is in the works with admissions and a few COSM administrators pertaining t0 the COSM road trip.
- Commuter Senator- Abby Benston
This week was super busy for myself and the Commuter Student Association! I finalized the catering for Finals Survival Week and set up the tables for the Invisible Children Jukebox fundraiser.
I set up a Facebook page for the Wright State Commuter Student Association and attended a meeting for campus television changes.
I am in the process of setting up an in-depth study of Wright State's student-to-faculty ratio for parking. If you are interested in helping me out, please let me know!
Next week will begin myself and Jake Todd's stint of serving on the Parking Appeals Board.
Finally, I will look into the University's policies on shuttle drivers and whether cell phone usage is addressed in their rules. If not, I will begin legislation requesting them to do so. If it is addressed, I will begin legislation asking for better observation and enforcement of the rule.
- Raj Soin College of Business Senator – Matthew Harmon
Everything I am working on is still at a standstill because I am waiting on hearing back from other people. I will hopefully be able to speak with Lyndsey (president of my DSAB) this week and get the ball rolling on the advising issue, figuring out who our next dean will be, and my big idea of getting the boards of all universities together at the beginning of next quarter.
Outside of my SG related issues for the DSAB outreach committee thoughts are listed below.
-Chocolate Economics which is an event tailored towards high school students and takes place this Friday.
-Having the DSAB go back to their high schools and speaking with business classes, BPA, or entire high school on the college of business.
-Going to business core classes getting them interested in their perspective clubs.
-Going to athletic events handing out t-shirts, or other college of business items.
- Residential Senator – Jake Todd
- This past week I have been working diligently for our Invisible Children event. I was able to collect money from the other student organizations participating in the raising of funds and advertise the event heavily. I have been collaberating with other Student Government members to plan out a meet and greet to meet our constituencies and get our positions better known on campus.Thursday I met with Dining services to discuss campus dining and what could be improved. On Saturday, Oct 22, I attended Wright State's club football game as well as the soccer game and the comedy night put on by RCA's SWAT.
- The Graduate School Senator – Lindsey Hofmeyer
- University College Senator – Jenn Barbadora
