CoLA Weekly Report
After having met with some students studying Japanese as a foreign language, it seems that they have a legitimate case for the idea of having a designated Japanese Studies minor within the College of Liberal Arts.
I will be continuing dialogue with these students, Charles Long (Assistant Dean for Academic Services for CoLA), and Dr. Stefan Pugh (Chair, Modern Languages).
The other issue of major concern is the recurring problem with usher sign-ups in the Creative Arts Center for theatre performances. One student, in particular, used up 17 slots just to themselves (14% of the total). And another handfull of students, while not nearly as monopolistic, take up a disproportionate amount of the sign-up space.
I am going to need help on this particular issue and am interested in gathering more student feedback in any way that I can.
On a more positive note, next week we will be finalizing the finer points of our writing contest, including its name and judges. Our next DSAB meeting will also entail a full discussion of budgeting for a student ambassador trip to local high schools whose excellence in the humanities is well known.
